CMS encourages you to participate in various forms of music instruction during the summer. There are several classes from which to choose. CMS offers continuing private and semi-private instruction for most every instrument and voice. In addition, several of the Group Programs, including S.T.E.P. Suzuki Strings and Jumpstart continue year-round. As well, all of the Creative Arts Therapy sessions are available. Plus, CMS is offering an opportunity to introduce youngsters to a super party or play-date opportunity. Be the first among your friends to enjoy a ‘House Call” by Dr. Sharon and her violin!

SUMMER CANCELLATION POLICY
In the event a cancellation is required, we ask you to notify CMS 48-hours in advance, otherwise your lesson will be charged to your account.
PRIVATE LESSONS: SUMMER OPTIONS
Private lessons may be taken in 4-week, 6-week, 8-week, or 9-week sessions. To schedule your session time, we ask you to contact the Office Manager at 610.435.7725.

She’ll bring along strings - she’ll play some tunes – and pretty soon, along with cookies, ice cream and balloons, we’ll be hearing SOUNDS OF TWINKLES FILL THE ROOMS…LET’S PLAY DOWN!

Dates: June 23 – 26 – 4 big days
Please, registration by June 1; music will be determined by the group of musicians enrolled in the clinic.
Time: 12:30 – 2:00 pm
A minimum of six youngsters are required for any group to begin. Private and or semi-private instruction is offered daily (each student taking lessons one time each week) plus one weekly group instruction.
Instructor: Dr. David Saturen
Learn to play jazz with composer/arranger and jazz professional, Dr. David Saturen, in our State-of-the-Art Presser Piano Lab. Improvisation in traditional jazz styles. We welcome students of piano and students who play OTHER INSTRUMENTS. Minimum enrollment of five students. It’s June and there’s plenty of jazz.
 
Music Theory
Ages: Beginners and Intermediate
Dates: July 7, 14, 21; July 28, August 4, 11
Time: 1:00 – 1:45 for beginners
Noon – 12:45 intermediate
Instructor: Dr. David Saturen

Each class will meet two times each week for three weeks each Monday & Thursday. The 3-week course will cover (6-sessions)
Pitch and rhythmic notation, writing melodies or playing them by ear, scales, intervals and chords.

Where does music begin?
Developing abilities in singing a melody; and, understanding and realizing its make-up. Includes participation for instrumentalists and singers. Materials for the class will be provided. CMS requests a minimum enrollment of four to begin the class.

Choral analysis and conducting for those with experience.

Work, Dig, and Unfold!
The task at hand: Comprehend the musical events and plan a strategy to disclose those wonders to the ensemble and ultimately to the listener.

You too can become a member of the CMS Flute Choir. You will experience the joy of performing music with others. The music studied will include everything from Bach to the Blues. Learn leadership skills through the rotation of parts during this summer flute camp.
PERFORMANCE, FRIDAY, JULY 11 AT 12:00: The very last day our CMS Flute Choir performs for family and friends! This is truly a wonderful way to spend a week in the summer, meet new friends, learn to play music, AND, experience the opportunity to perform. CMS does require a minimum enrollment of six to begin the class.

Learn team work; discover your creativity, and all while forming new friendships. Program includes two rehearsals, each 45-minutes in length prior to the actual performance program in September. CMS requests a minimum enrollment of five students to begin the class.

CMS introduces our very own String Orchestra for kids of ALL ages. Under the direction of Sharon Olsher YOU learn new music, enjoy performing in a string orchestra; become part of a team of fellow string players, push yourself to new heights, and feel the pride of achievement in orchestral performance. This intensive five-day session is for those students who have a passion for performance.

S.T.E.P
SUZUKI TALENT EDUCATION PROGRAM

A minimum of six youngsters are required for any group to begin. Private and or semi-private instruction is offered daily (each student taking lessons one time each week) plus one weekly group instruction.

Philosophical Foundation: “Every student has ability, every student is a worthy person, and through the study of music, every student can attain greatness as a human being.”

The journey begins as we invite you to observe both a group class and a private lesson while you await the delivery of your child’s violin that has been measured specifically for him/her. Enjoy the opportunity to speak with our educators prior to any lesson. Gain insight into their wealth of experience. It is a journey worth taking. The CMS S.T.E.P. program will open a world of new experiences to both you and your youngster.

Once lessons begin you will explore, create and understand music through developmentally appropriate and repetitive activities; all the while creating a musically stimulating environment. The bond between parent and child strengthens and grows.

Our S.T.E.P. Program involves weekly private or semi-private lessons and weekly group sessions.

Parent Class
For new S.T.E.P. enrollment: Parents of students enrolling in the Program will be required to attend one Parent Orientation Class in order to familiarize parents with the method of teaching, the supporting philosophy, and gain insight into how you (the parent or caregiver) fits into the ‘triangle.’ A must attend two-hour class. Instruction includes semi-private (2 – 4 students) with one teacher; private instruction (1 student) with one teacher. Group instruction includes a minimum of six students and a maximum of twelve students to one teacher.

Students will grow through the program. As youngsters advance, longer length sessions may be recommended in order to continue their musical journey. Prices quoted reflect 9-weeks of instruction.

SUZUKIFEST – THREE (3) DAY INTENSIVE GROUP WORKSHOP FOR ALL LEVELS – two intensive hours each day!

Ages: All levels/all ages

Dates: July 1 – 2 – 3 (3-Big Days!)
Time: Noon – 2:00 pm
Instructor: Sharon Olsher

Beginners start the each workshop day at noon; at 12:30 intermediate level goes through their paces; at 1:00 the advanced students take to the platform. Then each day at 1:30 the entire group works on group performance. Minimum enrollment for each level: 6 students.

A Suzuki fest workshop is the most intensive training for all levels of students; each student learns from the other. A great preparation for the next level of music study.

Designed for active, enthusiastic, and musically inclined children. Activities are integrated with music, vocal development, some storytelling and movement are all part of your child’s musical adventure. CMS requests a minimum enrollment of five to begin this class.
