Summer session begins Tuesday, June 23, 2009.
 

Summer Hours:
Monday – Thursday, 9:00 am – 8:00 pm;
Friday, 9:00 – 4:00 pm;
No Saturday schedule.

 
Private Lesson Options: Lessons may be taken in 4-week sessions; 6-week sessions; or the entire summer.
Holiday Closing: CMS will be closed Friday, July 3, 2009 in celebration of Independence Day, July 4th.
Summer Cancellation Policy: In the event a cancellation is required, we ask you to notify CMS 48-hours in advance, otherwise, your lesson will be charged to your account.
Financial and Scholarship Assistance is available for those who quality. Please make an appointment with the Office Manager to review the necessary paperwork.

GUITAR CLASS    
FLUTE CHOIR
Ages: All ages
Date: July 13 – 17th.
Time: 9:30 – noon
Instructor: Dr. Nora Suggs
Experience the joy of performing music with others. The music studied will include everything from Bach to the Blues. Recital noon, Friday, July 17th.
Minimum enrollment of six students for class to begin.
 
VOCAL WORKSHOP
Ages: 8+
Dates: Wk I: June 29 – 30 – July 1 – 2 Wk II: July 13 – 16
Time: 10:00 – noon.
Instructor: Ian Holmes II
Ian Holmes, American Idol runner-up, helps you to SING OUT and be a part of this fun workshop. Experience the recordings of professionals; expand your knowledge of repertoire and different styles. Sign up for one or both weeks. Performance is the culmination of all you have learned on Friday, July 17th 1:30 pm.
Minimum enrollment of eight students for class to begin.
 
 
JUNE JAZZ
Ages: All ages
Date: June 23 – June 26 (4 days)
Time:12:30 – 2:00 pm.
Instructor: Dr. David Saturen
If you love jazz, and want to learn more, this camp is for you. Let composer/arranger and jazz professional, Dr. David Saturen, teach you improvisation in traditional jazz styles. We welcome students of PIANO and students who play OTHER INSTRUMENTS. It’s June and there is plenty of Jazz!
Minimum enrollment of six students for class to begin.
 
MUSIC THEORY
Ages: Beginner and Intermediate students
Date: July 6 – 13 – 20; July 27 – Aug. 3 – 11(Classes meet two times each week for three weeks.)
Time: Intermediate students, 1:00 – 1:45 pm; Beginners, 2:00 – 2:45 pm.

STRING CHAMBER ORCHESTRA
Ages: All ages
Need: 8 violins, 2 cello’s, 2 viola’s.
Date: July 20 -24
Time:10:30 am – 1:00 pm.

An intensive five-day session for those with a passion for performance. Learn leadership and teambuilding skills; plus have loads of fun!
 
SUZUKI S.T.E.P. – VIOLIN

SUMMERTIME SING & SWING

Bring your favorite grownup for this exciting exploration of the world of music! We will listen and dance to jazz, classical and folk music; enjoy sounds from instruments we create, more!

RECORDER CAMP
Ages: Ages 5 – 7
Date: June 23 through August 11 (8 Tuesday mornings).
Time: 11 to Noon

Start your musical adventure…Do you want to learn to play an instrument and play songs that first day! Then come to CMS Recorder Camp; fun for all!

VOCAL CLASS
Ages: Ages 8 – 12
Date: One big week, July 20 – 24
Time:each day 10:30 – 11:30 am.
Instructor: Mary Schatkowski
Hear what the voice can do! Students learn the rudiments of good singing while having fun through group activities and games that develop note-reading and ear-training. You prepare songs to sing at the end of the week.

MUSIC THERAPY KIDS
Ages: Ages 5 – 7
Date: Monday – Thursday, July 6 - 9
Time:10:00 am – Noon
Instructor: Music Therapy Associates
Music, the power to facilitate learning and skill-building for all children. This group is especially structured for children with special needs. Let’s have fun in a social environment while remaining engaged and on-task. Music and skill-building activities, plus we will dance, play world percussion instruments, and participate in scarf and ribbon dances, parachute games, more!

JUMPSTART INTO MUSIC
VALUE PRICED AND GREAT FOR BEGINNERS!
Semi-private lessons at already low, and already discounted pricing. JUMPSTART is a unique approach to teaching; allowing YOU to learn along with another beginner. 4-week session per person charge.
 

GUITAR CLASS

4 BIG days to learn how to play the guitar.
Ages: Ages 8 – 14
Date: Tuesday June 16 - Friday, June 19
Time: 10:00 am - 10:45 am.

Do you really want to learn to play the guitar, not just pretend to play?

You will be introduced to basic chord vocabulary and strumming technique. This class is an ideal setting for those students wishing to learn the basic concept of how to accompany a singer or a vocal group. Learn exercises that will aid in learning chords and in playing simple melodies, plus, strengthen the hands for coordination and endurance. Please, CMS requires a minimum enrollment of five students for the class to begin.

Instructors: from the Allentown Art Museum, Allentown Symphony Orchestra, The Baum School of Art, Civic Theatre, Community Music School, and Repertory Dance Theatre.
Don’t miss the opportunity to study with 6 great cultural organizations in the heart of the Allentown Arts District all in one camp! Open to all youngsters who are creative, have loads of energy and are willing to have fun!
