Instructor: Kerianne Marshall

“The violin sings, the fiddle dances” – anonymous…Though in most cultures the instrument itself is the same. The fiddle is synonymous with folk music and dance. From the gypsies of Eastern Europe, to the Celtic tradition of the British Isles, to Appalachian mountain men, fiddle music is a huge part of world culture and storytelling across the globe.

In contrast to studying Classical violin, the study of fiddle music is less about technique, beauty, and perfection, then it is about expression, movement, and experimentation.

FOR YOUR INFORMATION: The first family member taking private lessons will pay full tuition cost. Additional family members receive a 5% discount. Students studying more than one instrument during the same season will also be entitled to a 5% discount. However, NO discount will be given if financial/scholarship aid has been awarded.

Financial Assistance/Scholarship Aid is available for those who qualify. Please schedule an appointment with the Business Manager to review the necessary paperwork. To apply, students must complete the Questionnaire and submit the required documentation. Students may apply for assistance throughout the school term.

POLICY: Discontinued Lessons. If the student discontinues lessons within the first four weeks of lessons, he/she will receive a 50% reimbursement on the balance. For lessons discontinued after the first four weeks, there is no tuition refund. (Balances will be available until the end of the school year in June). There are no scheduled cancellations. However, in the event of an extended illness or other longer-term related absence, a leave of absence (LOA) can usually be arranged through the Director of the school.

Students are charged for books, music and/or copies.

RECITAL INFORMATION
General guidelines when using CMS accompanists: Piano accompaniment for instrumental and vocal students is available for CMS recitals. The rates vary depending on the difficulty of the music to be performed and the extent of rehearsal time. We request music be submitted to the accompanist at least two weeks before the recital date. If you wish to provide your own accompanist, you may do so with the approval of your teacher, however, CMS advises the use of professional accompanists. A CMS ACCOMPANIST FORM, with all necessary information and pricing, IS AVAILABLE IN THE ADMINISTRATIVE OFFICE.

RECITAL AND PERFORMANCE DRESS CODE
Each performance is special for the CMS faculty, the staff, the student and the audience. Recitals are about the music, what each student has learned, as well as stage presence. CMS does request appropriate clothing be worn for each recital. We ask you to refrain from wearing blue jeans, shorts and flip-flops. If in doubt, please ask.

WE REQUEST EVERYONE TURN OFF ALL CELL PHONES PRIOR TO EACH RECITAL.
